When should a tree come out?
Not every tree needs to be removed, and we will tell you so during the estimate. We frequently recommend pruning or cabling instead of removal when a tree is still structurally sound. A tree usually does need to come out, however, when it shows any of the following: large dead branches over a structure, an obvious lean that has worsened over time, root-plate heaving after a wind event, advanced beetle damage, hollow or decayed trunk sections, or fungal conks at the base.
Many Tahoe property owners also remove trees proactively as part of a defensible-space plan. Crowded stands, ladder fuels and trees touching the roofline all dramatically raise wildfire risk. Leo or one of our lead arborists will walk the property, identify the trees in question, talk through your goals and put a written quote in your inbox. On the day of the job, our crew sets up protection for nearby landscaping, decks and driveways. The climber works methodically from the top down, rigging large pieces so they land exactly where the ground crew wants them. We chip brush on-site, cut larger wood into manageable rounds and either haul everything off or leave wood neatly stacked for firewood, whichever you prefer. Before we leave, we rake the work area, blow off walkways and walk the property with you to make sure you are completely satisfied.
Stump grinding and site cleanup
If you want the stump gone, we can grind it down 6 to 12 inches below grade on the same visit or schedule it for a follow-up. We can also fully excavate the stump if you are planning to build, plant or pour concrete in that spot. Either way, you will be left with usable ground, not a hazard.
